About AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is the foundational AWS certification. It is for people who can explain the AWS Cloud at a high level, including candidates early in a cloud career and people in sales, marketing, product or project roles. AWS describes the target candidate as having up to six months of exposure to AWS, and says that exposure is not required.

The current exam code is CLF-C02. It has been the Cloud Practitioner exam since 19 September 2023. The exam-guides index and the CLF-C02 exam guide, both read on 17 October 2026, still name CLF-C02. They do not list a newer Cloud Practitioner series code.

The certification page states 65 questions and 90 minutes. Questions are multiple choice (one correct response and three distractors) or multiple response (two or more correct responses out of five or more options). The exam guide states that 50 questions affect the score and 15 do not. The unscored questions are not identified. Unanswered questions are incorrect. There is no penalty for guessing.

Results are pass or fail. AWS reports a scaled score from 100 to 1,000. The minimum passing score is 700. Scaling equates forms that differ slightly in difficulty. AWS does not publish a conversion from the number correct to that scaled score, so a practice result here is raw marks, not a scaled score.

Scoring is compensatory: there is no pass mark for each domain. You need to pass the exam as a whole. Scored content is weighted Cloud Concepts 24%, Security and Compliance 30%, Cloud Technology and Services 34%, and Billing, Pricing, and Support 12%. A score report may classify performance by section. AWS says to use that feedback with caution.

Coding, architecture design, troubleshooting, implementation, and load or performance testing are out of scope. The certification is valid for three years. The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE at a test centre or online.
