About AWS Solutions Architect – Associate

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate is for people who design cloud solutions on AWS. The exam guide (SAA-C03) says the target candidate should have at least 1 year of hands-on experience designing solutions that use AWS services. The certification page describes it as a starting point for someone with AWS or strong on-premises IT experience, and it does not require deep coding.

The certification page lists 65 questions, multiple choice or multiple response, and 130 minutes. The exam guide says 50 of those questions affect the score and 15 are unscored. The unscored questions are not labelled. Unanswered questions are marked wrong, and there is no penalty for guessing.

Scored content is four domains: Design Secure Architectures 30%, Design Resilient Architectures 26%, Design High-Performing Architectures 24%, and Design Cost-Optimized Architectures 20%. The guide gives those weights, not a fixed question count per domain. Scoring is compensatory: there is no pass mark per domain.

Results are a scaled score from 100 to 1000. The exam guide sets the minimum passing score at 720. AWS does not publish a table from raw marks to that scale. A practice result here is therefore the raw number of questions marked correct, not a scaled score.
