About Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)

Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals is a beginner certification for people who can describe cloud concepts, core Azure services, and the features used to secure, govern, and administer Azure. Microsoft describes it as a common starting point toward a career in Azure. The certification page was last updated on 20 July 2026.

The certification page states that you have 45 minutes to complete the assessment. Microsoft's exam-duration page puts every fundamentals exam at 45 minutes of exam time and 65 minutes of seat time. Seat time includes instructions, the candidate agreement, the questions, and optional comments. Five minutes of the exam time are set aside for unscheduled breaks; the clock keeps running during a break, and questions already seen cannot be reopened after the break starts. Microsoft Learn is not available during fundamentals exams.

Microsoft does not publish a question count for AZ-900. The duration page says most Microsoft certification exams contain 40 to 60 questions and that the number can change. This practice form uses 45 questions, inside that range, on one 45-minute clock. The three skill areas are not timed separately. On the study guide dated 20 July 2026 they are weighted Describe cloud concepts 25–30%, Describe Azure architecture and services 35–40%, and Describe Azure management and governance 30–35%. The 45 items are split 12, 18, and 15 so each block sits inside its published range.

Technical exam scores are reported from 1 to 1000. A score of 700 or greater passes. Microsoft says this scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points, and it does not publish a table from the number correct to the 1–1000 score. A wrong answer does not deduct a point. Some questions may be unscored and are not marked as such. This practice form scores every item and reports the raw marks. It does not estimate a 1–1000 score.
